Our Own Tschudin Chocolates Wins Frist Place - 2x !!

2/4/2010

The Downtown Business District’s own Tschudin Chocolates & Confections swept both the Critics’ Choice and the Peoples’ Choice Awards at the Middlesex County American Red Cross’ 8th annual fundraiser, “Chocolate to the Rescue!” The event, held at Waters’ Edge in Westbrook at the end of January, challenged nearly two-dozen restaurants, bakeries and chocolatiers to produce their best chocolate concoction for bragging rights as to who among them makes the best chocolate desserts. Tschudin Chocolates & Confections won for its composed dessert, “A Night in Tunisia,” based around its signature chocolate bon-bon by that name. The dessert drew special attention for its combination of warm tomatoes served with a light and delicate Royale de Chocolat and for the carry-over of the Night in Tunisia flavor profile into an accompanying Chocolate Caramel Walnut Torte. The plate came together with a milk chocolate mousse and a chocolate swirl in the familiar red-and-white pattern for which the Red Cross has long been famous. The table presentation also featured a number of sculptures in chocolate, some finished to look like Haitian mahogany in honor of the Red Cross effort in that nation. Tschudin Chocolates & Confections is located between the Amici Grill and the AT&T store, at the corner of Main and Court Streets, Middletown. Since it’s opening in the middle of last year, Tschudin has created approximately fifteen part-time jobs, producing hand-made chocolates and bon-bons with Swiss, French, Belgian and American chocolate. Tschudin Chocolates is a proud participant in the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Farm-to-Chef program and wherever possible confections are made from local fruits, herbs and honeys.
